Origin sliding doors are British designed and made high quality patio doors providing an excellent solution to replacing dated patio doors or designed into a new extension. With four different models of Origin sliding doors available, we tell you where you can consider using each one and some great features of each product.
Why you might consider Origin sliding doors
Whether it’s Origin or any of our other door brands, sliding patio doors provide larger glass panels. We recommend a sliding model as you’ll get the best views out to your garden, fewer aluminium profiles compared with a bifolding door and a feeling of more light and space in your room.
As well as this, the sightlines of sliding doors are usually slimmer than French doors or bifolding doors and it’s this more minimalist styling that’s a huge part of their appeal.
The popularity of sliding patio doors right now is down to modern house designs and getting a contemporary impressive slider as part of your home improvement project. Sliding doors are recommended where, for example, your home benefits from a larger garden, countryside or seaside views.
For Origin sliding doors specifically, you get a beautifully built patio door, with up to a 20-year guarantee, excellent security and energy efficiency, quality materials and a low maintenance easy to live with new door.
The Origin name itself is one of the best in the UK, highly regarded for its excellent design, brand reputation and quality guarantee. And for where you want quality front doors, side or back doors, windows or bifolds, these products are available too.
There are four different Origin sliding doors giving you a great solution based on budget, sliding door type as well as the visible aluminium sightline you might want.
Origin OS-20 Artisan minimalist sliding doors
At the top of the range is the super slim model with a 20mm mullion sightline. This is the Grand Slider model by Origin for when you want the sleekest most streamlined design and reduced sightlines. You can use this slimline model both as a replacement for your dated doors, but it’s particularly effective in a new opening.
For instance, the handles on this door are a smaller flush design adding to its overall flush look. You can set the frames into a new opening giving a near frameless appearance. And for when you want the best views, viewed face on it’s got the slimmest vertical mullion, just 20mm thick.
Even better with this particular model is its large size capability, comfortably going up to 3m high and wider door panels than the other Origin sliding doors models. Finally is the option of doors with two, three or four panels. A six-module configuration gives you doors up to 13m wide including the end fixed panels.
We recommend this model when sightlines and overall styling matter the most as well as when you want the most discreet slider in terms of visible aluminium and hardware. It’s also the only Origin slider available in a four panel design with all the panels moving. You can view this model in our brand new showroom.
The Origin OS-29 slim sliding door
With a mullion sightline just 9mm wider is the equally desirable slim inline slider. Where the more streamlined appearance of the slimmest model isn’t essential and you’re looking for similar vertical middle lines at a lower price, this is your go-to model.
The OS-29 as well as the remaining models in the Origin sliding doors range, all come with a slightly wider surround frame and a more familiar sliding door design.
We recommend this model where a slim middle mullion particularly on two or three panel door designs is your preference. The other benefit of this particular model is the panels come at an overall patio door size of nearly 12 metres, again making this ideal for larger sliding door openings.
Origin OS-44 sliding patio door
Visually identical at the surrounding frame and track to the OS-29 but 44mm middle mullions is the mid-range model.
We recommend this model where slim sightlines don’t matter as much, yet you’d still prefer a door with pleasing contemporary middle lines. This particular model really does suit most project types as a replacement patio sliding door and is great in a new extension.
So while you might automatically think slimline is best, the OS-44 model provides a great balance between classic and contemporary.
OS-77 Classically Styled Slider
Designed as a superb general sliding patio door is the model with a 77mm mullion. Don’t for a second think thicker means a less attractive sliding patio door and there are many reasons to choose it as well as its superb price to quality benefits.
We recommend this model where you’re replacing an older sliding door and you’re happy with the lines of your original doors but want a more secure and better-performing slider. It’s also worth remembering how many of our homes have recently installed PVCu, aluminium or timber replacement windows all with more classic styling and similar frame dimensions. As a result, the OS-77 provides a luxury aluminium solution without contrasting too much with the sculptured or ovolo profiles of your existing windows and doors that you’re perfectly happy with.
This model just like the 44mm and 29mm versions comes with exactly the same surround frame and track dimensions and the same marine-grade handles and an excellent locking system.
